For those who haven’t been following this game’s development, Grim Dawn might seem like another Diablo clone. But it’s one those beautiful things. Kickstarter success storeys It is for those in the know who renew their faith in gaming and humanity.
Grim Dawn, originally released as an Early Access title in 2013, and later as a complete release in 2016, takes the Diablo-like ARPG-form formula and injects its Victorian-era mythology into it.
Developer Crate Entertainment consulted both the greats in the genre and fans to help them realize their dream of an ARPG.
They may not have succeeded, but that is up for debate. However, the game has its own beauty and is full of great fun, particularly if it’s loaded with mods.
Check out my picks of the coolest mods to brighten up the Gloomy Dawn atmosphere, before you dive back into Cairn.
20. Greater Cursors
There are hundreds of ways to make it smaller or less intrusive while searching the Internet for immersion mods.
The HUD, the positions on your map, markers to quests, and your mouse.
Maker Dreadmoth’s QoL-enhancing mod can do the opposite.
Grim Morning brings cursors up from 32-32 on a tiny scale to 64-64 on a large scale, effectively doubling their size.
It’s important to keep your eyes clear during long play sessions.
19. Faster Loot
Many people love grinding games because they are willing to work hard, but some don’t have time.
That’s because I love seeing those levels grow. I won’t spend four hours trying to master each level of the equipment.
Mugwumpshasnoliver’s Faster Loot makes the game easier by increasing the drop rate on Epic and Legendary equipment, which is great for those who are short of time.
The fact that Legendaries are four times as likely as you, practically means that every time you play the game, you will get one. Even if you don’t have much time to play, you’ll still be able to see more.
18. PlayStation Button Prompts
It’s still good to be happy when a PC game offers professional gamepad support.
It seems simple enough on consoles to do this, but why not go an extra mile and give people what they want?
Oh, so did Crate Entertainment! Although it took some time, the gamepad is now fully playable. Except that DualShock and Xbox controllers are not distinguishable, they display the same onscreen prompts for all gamepads.
As you may have guessed, this mod by NexusMods user Dreadmoth removes all DualShock friendly prompts. It retains the same artistic style and icons as the vanilla icons.
17. Better Niveaus
Grim Dawn is another great option for gamers looking for a faster and more enjoyable gaming experience.
KalAeon’s mod Better Levels allows for easier progression.
If you are looking to reach the highest level of 250, you will get twice as much monster killing experience.
You’ll also get three attribute points per level, which you can allocate to your stats. This gives you more control over the construction and design of your character.
This also increases the dedication limit from 200 to 200. The plus standard for equipment was dropped and the overall experience was simplified.
Both for veterans and emerging players.
16. Not So Dark, But Not So Grim
This post also focuses on Bleak Dawn and is simplified. Although it has a greater reach than Better Levels this one is still high up on the list.
Modder Stedman420 added Not So Grim to the game. It adds several QoL-improving features, which makes it a lot easier.
You can now automatically pick up items and have access to bigger storage spaces to store them. You can now buy any item in the game from vendors.
Heck, you can even purchase new challenges or raise your levels from suppliers. Nifty! Nifty!
15. Speedrun Grim Dawn
Grim Dawn Speedrun is an alternative to making a huge adjustment to the levelling structures of the game.
This set of adjustments will greatly increase your running speed. This will double the speed of your pets, so that they can keep up with yourself on a bloody rampage.
To make it worthwhile, you can also increase the Devotion cap to 166.
Did I mention that killing enemies will give you ten times the number of faction points? This makes it easier to negotiate between factions.
14. Groups Diablo 3
This mod does more than add Demon Hunter or Necromancer as Masteries to Grim Dawn. Despite its name explicitly indicating ‘Classes,’
Grimerino created this massive mod that carries hundreds of amazing Diablo III equipment sets such as Trag’Oul’s Avatar and the Aegis of Valor.
New Diablo franchise bosses are available here, along with new cosmetics.
13. Grim search
If there were a mod that brought all the Diablo classes to Grim Dawn, then there must have been one with Titan Quest: Eternal Throne.
Maker Syl101 wasn’t content to just port the mastery. He also made sure that both audio and visual effects were accurately replicated.
Even the menu icons in Titan Quest are the same!
This is fitting, given the fact that Grim Dawn is based upon this. PathEngine Titan Quest was heavily inspiritualized.
Despite its name suggesting otherwise, this mod does not have a Tolkien-inspired theme.
It is essentially a collection of mods that Syl101 has created to give the game a stable, but large expansion.
This means you will have new material to discover. It should also keep you motivated to fight all the new enemies.
Another important characteristic? Hand-picked from Mods Grim Quest and Diablo 3 Classes. All new masteries.
This is the right installation for you if you want to give your game a new lease of life.
11. Smash-N-Grab for yourself
We’ve already talked about mods that make Bleak Dawn less grim in terms of levelling or equipment-hunting.
Moordhuis Smash-N-Grab is the most well-known.
It eliminates almost all of the grind associated with Grim Dawn by changing every avenue of advancement, other than the campaign.
Epic and Iconic equipment can be found for a fraction of the price, and you will soon have all five slots. You’ll level quicker. You don’t need to go back to your hometown like this.
If you want your game to be a power fantasy, this is the way to go.
Mods that seek to completely change the gaming experience are what I love.
3ijou created Apocalypse. It is one the best Grim Dawn’s characters. Five new masteries are included, as well as tweaks to improve the game’s skill and levelling.
You’ll also find new crafting and looting options. There is a lot to explore here.
The Apocalypse remains a somewhat progressive work. More content will be added as and when it is possible.
Cataclysm may be the best option if you are looking for something similar to this, but more comprehensive. This mod was also made by 3ijou.
9. Reborn the Bleak Dawn
Grim Dawn Mods tend to port content from similar games. Grim Dawn Reborn however is designed to make the base game as good as possible.
Ddem1 has come up with innovative ways to play each class. Ddem1 created new ways to master each class, including extending building options, making skills look cooler and adding new ones.
The redesign and most importantly, the monsters, can also influence itemization.
It’s possible that, once you take down an opponent with it, a “Remnant” powered-up version of them will spawn.
It can be defeated to unlock an item that allows pets to be kept for the beasts. It’s great fun.
8. Grim Dawn’s Way
Grim Dawn is slower than other games of the genre (such like Diablo III).
Kanjineo modifies a few settings to make the game more intense, including player speed limits, cooldown times and mob density. Similar to Exile s Route.
Some PoE skills are included that can be used in conjunction with the modified pace.
The most recent cosmetic auras are only a bonus.
7. Item Wizard
Slippery Pete has created Item Assistant, a mod that is only available as a base function for vanilla games.
It allows you to store infinite amounts of stuff. You might even argue against it from a “difficulty” perspective. It also lets you sort objects based upon type of injury, defensive stats or any other criteria you choose.
Why didn’t Grim Dawn vanilla include that feature from the beginning? This is essential stuff, people!
6. A Dawn of Masteries
Yes, you can build Cataclysm or Diablo 3 Classes to increase mastery… but what about if you could have all three?
Gdstash’s Dawn of Masteries consists more of a compilation rather than an initial mod.
It includes the finest masteries and minor cosmetic additions from the most well-made mods in Grim Dawn modding. All of this is available on a silver platter.
This mod is simply insane in its variety.
This will help you to feel free from the limitations of your base game mastery.
5. Mod of Grim Truce
You created new masters, received the best tools, then went on endless Grim dawn adventures. Is there anything else you can do?
You can make it into Evil Souls.
Holcomb’s mod, which completely changes the battle and skill system to mimic soul-like games, was created by Holcomb. Dark Souls.
The camera will follow your character from an overhead viewpoint.
You could also be subject to rogue-like penalties, such as losing all of your experience upon the death. This can lead to a tonne of damage.
4. ReShade Aetherial
While I understand that Grim Dawn is a game, does it have to appear so dark and murky all the time?
Creator ThreshProductions faced the same problem. Creator ThreshProductions came up with the ReShade preset. It has appealing visual FX and a vibrant color palette that enhances colours and textures and improves overall game look.
This mod is the only mod everyone can use. Gameplay is unaffected.
3. The Grim Legion
Grim Legion, one the most successful and original mods for Grim Dawn shines with its simple mission statement, to make the game more challenging without changing its essence.
The mob density makes the game more action-packed and fast-paced. Other than tweaking how bosses are spawned, several new superbosses were added.
These changes will be evident as more and stronger enemies appear. They’re not acting like cannon fodder.
Masteries have been updated, the level limit has been raised, and all Devotion Shrines participate in every difficulty to make it a more enjoyable experience.
Keep in mind, however, that they are now all Dishonest Spawners. So be prepared.
2. Global Conversion Warhammer 40,000
Every night before I go back to sleep, I wonder if there is a good Warhammer 40k ARPG.
I mean, Warhammer 40 K, I guess: Inquisitor — Martyr wasn’t that bad. Couldn’t it have been better?
If you like Grim Dawn, then you may as well!
This Emrakul7 mod converts the Warhammer 40 K universe’s bad-ass fighting and vehicles to Grim Dawn.
Over 150 sets of space-marine armor have been released so far. They include massive pauldrons as well as a variety of deadly weapons.
Masteries have been reworked in this new world to make sense.
This mod is the only way I’ll ever be able to play again.
1. Nydiamar Nydiamar
If you’re like me, then extra material doesn’t necessarily mean anything if you don’t have any.
VanHouck, the modder has made it possible!
This standalone campaign mod was added as an expansion to the base games and features more than seven hours of new gameplay.
The new Nydiamar will be your destination. It is packed with new lore, quests, and enemies.
You can even create your own music!
The expansion’s increased experience and drop rates make it easier to create a new character. You will be able to go toe to toe with the campaign’s most difficult bosses, and all Nydiamar has in store for you.
